LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - An Eni SpA oil pipeline ruptured and caught fire as a militant group claimed responsibility for an attack in the region, their first alleged assault in months as its purported leader awaits trial on terrorism charges in South Africa.

Not a good way to do business - they would rather the oil go to waste than to utilize it for economic development.

All the Africa countries will eventually get their acts together and be thriving Democracies. But I sure hope that Nigeria gets their priorities straight with that Oil.

hmmmm headline reads:

western companies make promises they fail to keep.. involve themselves with corrupt gov't officials... and are caught surprised when populace takes an attitude...

and the delta get polluted in the meantime.. with no concrete clean-up in store until areas are secure....

makes ya want to barf. at least that's how I feel....

none of this possible without oil and our dollars...

Yep, the whole of Africa is a tinderbox, yet that tinderbox IS affecting the cost of our fuel. Why do we have to depend on them?

Good question! Ask your beloved President in the WH. In 2010, the US imported an average of 900,000 BOPD from Nigeria. The Keystone XL could have easily replaced that 900K barrel from a stable reliable source.

A strike was barely averted 2 weeks ago when the Nigerian govt back paddled and reinstated 50% of the gasoline subsidy. If the strike would have gone ahead, the US would have to scramble to find replacement for that 900K barrels of oil/day.

The history of the West in Nigeria and their oil production is full of blood. Shell demanded and succeeded in the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa, a Nigerian activities who exposed Shell's corruption and lies to the Niger delta's Ogoni people. Promised schools and hospitals were never built and all the money went to the very chosen few and the corrupt Nigerian government. ExxonMobil did not do better, except they had a smaller roll in Ken Saro-Wiwa's execution.

Sounds like a good supplier to depend on for a steady source of oil.
