Toyota Resumes Hiring at Mississippi Plant

IndustryWeek -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Aug. 23 it will continue hiring for positions at its Blue Springs, Miss., plant after delaying its plan to start production at the facility amid weak market conditions.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi, Inc. (TMMMS) is hiring for hourly production and skilled maintenance positions through the Mississippi Department of Employment Security and the Workforce Investment Network Job Centers.

Toyota plans to eventually hire 2,000 employees at the plant.

Individuals interested in employment opportunities at Toyota's Blue Springs plant may apply online at www.mdes.ms.gov.

This is nothing more than Toyota attempting to generate buzz (i.e. positive press). I mean, what are they hiring? 2000 "eventual" rent-a-cops to guard their structure in north Mississippi? It's nothing more than a "shell". There isn't even any internal structure to the building-complex, let alone any machinery to even assemble vehicles with, or support businesses to supply the assembly plant.

That's the equivalent of saying, "there were more jobs created at the new mall, than the existing mall across town..." Well, duh! And if Michigan would have [then] had the ability to give-away a quarter-BILLION plus in incentives to each new assembly plant, it's likely they would have attracted non-domestics to Michigan - ESPECIALLY given that there was already a "trained" workforce in place from which to hire from. One of the largest complaints at the southern assembly plants, as been the inability to hire enough "trainable" employees (i.e. people with sufficient educational skills to be trainable). This was even cited in one instance, where one of the non-domestic manufacturers chose to build a new facility in Canada, over several southern states that were [then] in the running at the time. I believe they should be paid a fair wage, but everyone is going to have to give, or move south for the new jobs. Conservation keeps your money in your pocket.
