US Crude May Slip Below $100 as Supply Risks Ease: Analysts

CNBC -- U.S. crude oil futures may test $100 a barrel this week and possibly breach key support as Saudi exports replenish U.S. stockpiles and supply risks ease, technical analysts and strategists said Wednesday.

Sandy Jadeja, Chief Technical Analyst at City Index, said the charts suggest U.S. futures may drop to $98 a barrel, and if that level is broken, momentum could accelerate taking the crude to as low as $87.

Oil prices contained below $100 would help alleviate the strain on the U.S. consumer, offering some relief to the broader economy. A gallon of gasoline cost $3.94 at the pump last week, two cents higher than the previous week and 5.9 percent more expensive than a year earlier, MasterCard said in its weekly Spending Pulse report on Tuesday.

"Below $100" sounds good but refineries can and will cut gasoline output to keep gas prices up.

Crude Oil Prices Up Second Day In A Row

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Oil futures finished higher Thursday as equities rallied, despite a closely watched report from an energy watchdog saying that the crude-oil market is amply supplied.

Light, sweet crude for May delivery settled 94 cents, or 0.9%, higher at $103.64 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude on the ICE futures exchange settled $1.53, or 1.3%, higher at $121.71 a barrel.

Traders, however, looked past the bearish cues on Thursday, as oil prices followed broader markets higher. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was recently up 1.4% to 1387, rising as New York Fed President William Dudley said interest rates will likely remain low.

Prices were also buoyed by a weaker dollar, with the ICE Dollar Index off 0.6% to 79.289. A weaker dollar typically boosts crude prices by making the dollar-denominated commodity cheaper for holders of other currencies.

"We're not up today based on a physical shortage. We're up today because the S&P 500 is up and a lot of other commodities are up," said Tim Evans, energy analyst at Citi Futures Perspective in New York. "It's a risk-on trade flow."

A day ago, the pump price in central Iowa was sitting at $3.58. Within a 5 hour time period, the couple of thousand stations within a 15 mile radius jacked their price up $0.14. About the only thing in the news of much noteworthyness was the failed N. Korean rocket launch. I bet the speculators used it as an excuse for jacking the price up, citing increase in world tensions.

I've seen articles about how people are getting deluged with credit card offers. I myself get at least one a day.

Economy is slowly starting to recover. Speculators are at it again (never stopped), the big banks & financial giants are back to paying top management obscene compensation to go back to risky financial gambles in the quest for get back to the days of astronomical profits.

So instead of $5.00 a gallon the experts a week ago predicted we see
gas prices falling.

The Saudi's have agreed to increase exports to the U.S. since they don't want to stockpile their excess production. Maybe a price less than $87 is possible.

I can remember shopping for the cheapest prices and have paid as little as fifteen cents a gallon and got saving stamps as well! I can remember moving to another state and gasoline at that time was about .46 cents a gallon and I thought that was too high! I just found a trip ticket for 1996 and I paid .96 cents a gallon.
